BayWa r.e. is proud to receive the top innovation award from pv magazine for their Floating PV system that transforms unused, artificial bodies of water into high-efficiency green energy generators.
Having determined that no existing Floating PV system on the market met BayWa r.e. standards, the company partnered with the renowned engineering experts at Zimmermann PV-Stahlbau GmbH to design their own.
The result of that partnership is the state-of-the-art, highly versatile, large-scale BayWa r.e. Floating PV Solution, including the ZimFloat sub-construction by Zimmermann. The integrated system design of this solution is based on a fully certified electrical concept. Its integrated inverter boats, maintenance walkways, cable ducts, wave barriers and the floating transformer station make this system unique and allow for the highest stability, long life and easy maintenance.
Additionally, the system design provides maximum benefits of the water-cooling effect, which increases the efficiency of the modules and at the same time, reduces evaporation to a minimum. Especially in southern countries, where water is scarce, these are important advantages.
Within one and a half years, the company has already realized several Floating PV parks with a total capacity of more than 50 MWp. BayWa r.e. started with the pilot project Weperpolder, with a capacity of 2.1 MWp, followed by the 8.4 MWp Tynaarlo project and the 14.5 MWp Sekdoorn project. The latest realized Floating PV installation is called Bomhofsplas with 27.4 MWp. It is the world’s largest Floating PV installation outside of China! Numerous further Floating projects are already planned. BayWa r.e. may therefore be considered as a new market leader beyond European borders in the field of Floating PV.
